Note that I went into this movie with high expectations..not all were met. Depp is often hilarious, yet creepy, as Willy Wonka, but he just isn't Willy Wonka. I just couldn't convince myself that he was Wonka, and more importantly, he couldn't convince me either. The music and songs by Danny Elfman are fantastic, and Burton's sets are once again highly imaginative, and Freddie Highmore is a perfect Charlie Bucket, but I just couldn't get over the fact that I wished it starred Gene Wilder as his fully realized (and superior) Wonka. Not to mention that the movie seems to forget about Charlie when they finally enter the factory. I still rather enjoyed the film, but I had really looked forward to Depp playing a much more realized Willy Wonka. The flash backs into his child-hood were nice touches, and Christopher Lee was great as his mean dentist father (explains a lot don't it?), but I just didn't feel much of any real sincerety (except for the opening scenes between Charlie and his family). Still worthy of viewing (for Deep Roy alone, who steals the show as every Oompa Loompa)
P.S.- Sorry for it being kinda short and to the point...in a hurry...
Score- B+
